Diversified Learning Support

The Diversified Learning Support Program (DLS) works with teachers and parents to provide students with the  academic support, empowerment, and guidance they need to experience success and achieve age and grade-appropriate independence, while also allowing for each student’s unique learning exceptionalities.

DLS services are offered in the DLS Center and/or in the classroom to assist students with learning exceptionalities to perform successfully alongside their peers. The result is steady improvement in self-esteem and measurable gains in academic performance.

Eligibility

Students who have documented learning differences may receive regularly scheduled support services in one or more subject areas.

Documentation consists of a written report of assessment by a qualified and licensed clinician or psychologist, and must have been obtained within the past three years. This evaluation is the foundation of an effective, focused plan of supportive education for students.

Services available through DLS are extended on a limited basis to students with no diagnosed learning exceptionalities but who have infrequent but significant difficulty in achieving grade-level expectations in one or more subjects.

Other Functions

In addition to support services for students formally enrolled in the program, DLS assists families in getting comprehensive assessment services, assists classroom teachers in accommodations, and can provide extended time on tests. DLS maintains records of documentation for all SBS students enrolled in the program.

Note that St. Bonaventure Catholic School does not offer special education services, though every effort will be made to meet each child’s learning needs. Diversified Learning Support services cannot be guaranteed.
